Goal setting is one of my favorite things to do!! Most people goal set at the beginning of the year – I goal set at the beginning of every month. Whether you’re into goal setting or trying to start, keep reading for my Top 5 Tips that can help!
1. Your goal needs to be SPECIFIC and MEANINGFUL.
Listen; if you set the right goals, they are gonna be TOUGH! There are going to be times when you want to go after something but aren’t even sure how to do it yet – set those goals anyway. Make sure they are clear and specific because it should be something that you are thinking about all the time. It should excite you, motivate you and be meaningful enough to you that you are willing to take the actions to achieve it.
2. Write it down.
Writing it down makes it more real. If it’s just in your head, than it’s not a goal, it’s an idea. It also gives you something to go back to during the tough times or when you get sidetracked – you can go back to your notebook, take a look and remember why you started.
3. Make an Action Plan and Set Intentions
You can’t control the outcome, but you can control the steps and actions that you take to get there. Something that I have learned lately is that you don’t need to know the how you just need to know and believe that it’s going to happen. That being said, you shouldn’t just sit around doing nothing while waiting for it to happen, you have to go and take action. Ask yourself what actions should you be taking everyday that will help you get closer to your goal. Write them down, and then perform them daily.
4. Think About It Everyday
Your goal should be something that’s always in your mind; otherwise, it’s probably not that important to you. One thing that I’ve actually started doing is writing my goal down 100 times every day. Now I know that may seem accessive, but let me tell you – you’ll never have to worry about forgetting it.
5. Stay Consistent and Don’t Give Up
When you set a good goal, chances are it’s something that you’ve never done before. Sometimes it’s something that you didn’t even think was possible to do. You will have moments when you get frustrated or feel like giving up – but don’t stop! In my personal opinion, the number one killer of all goals and dreams is the fact that people give up. The way I see it, if you keep working at it, it’s bound to happen. It might take a few weeks, maybe a few months, maybe even a few years! But if you keep going, it will happen eventually; if you give up, it never will.
I hope those tips were helpful; now take some time to think about what you want to achieve. The opportunities are endless – what is your next big goal going to be?
