I don’t know about anyone else, but mornings are my favourite time of the day!! I love getting up early and starting my day right – but it wasn’t always like that. I used to be all over the place in the mornings – sleeping in, rushing to get ready and out the door, and I knew that I needed to change that.
So in today’s blog post, I want to share my top 4 tips on how to create an ideal morning routine and on how to start the day right!
1. No Snoozing – Wake Up at the Same Time Everyday
The first thing you should do when trying to become a morning person is to decide what time you want to get up and stick to it. Make sure to pick a time that you know will work and can be consistent with – otherwise it will make it harder to stay on track. The one thing you don’t want to do (and I learned this the hard way) is hit SNOOZE. Why? 2 reasons – one, you’ll feel groggy for the rest of the day. Two, if you told yourself you were going to get up at a certain time and then bail, you have failed at something before you’ve even gotten out of bed! So set a time that you can commit to, get up and don’t hit snooze.
2. Gratitude / Affirmations
The first thing that I do when I wake up is gratitude journaling, where I write out 10 things that I’m grateful for. I think it’s super important to express gratitude always – but when you do it in the morning, it puts you in a happy and grateful mood for the whole day.
Affirmations are another thing that I do every morning – over the past few months I have been doing a lot of mindset training and learning about manifestation. I have a lot of big goals and dreams that I want to accomplish – so one thing I do every day is write it down as if it already happened. It puts me in the spirit of being in possession of that lifestyle and works well for me!
I also write down affirmations when I feel doubtful or have a lack of belief. Whatever it is that I am having negative thoughts about, I switch it around and affirm the situation in its positive form. Then I rewrite that over and over again until I start to believe it.
3. Personal Development Reading
Personal development and personal growth is something that is super important to me, and I can’t go a day without it. Every morning, after my gratitude and affirmations, I like to spend 20 minutes reading personal development book. I have so many favourites and could recommend so many that I love! I am currently reading How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and it is AMAZING. If you haven’t read it yet, you need to! The content in there is so good and you learn so many skills that I think we could all benefit from having.
4. Morning Walk
This is my newest addition to my morning routine, and one of my favourites! Every morning I go for a walk after my journaling and reading – I usually do a minimum of 20 minutes, but sometimes I’ll go longer if I’m feeling good. I like to listen to podcasts, and so that’s what I do on my walk! Same as with books, I love personal development podcasts as well as entrepreneurship ones. My current favourite is Often Ambitious – two entrepreneurs chatting about business, life and tips to be successful in both.
I think it’s super important to move your body, and I am really trying to implement multiple different physical activities into my day to accomplish that! And when I get back, I always feel awake and ready to start the day.
