I’m super excited about this week’s post because I’ve been wanting to share it with you all for awhile!! A couple of weeks ago, my friend Laney from Living with Laney asked me to write for her blog. Her content focuses on productivity and motivation towards creating a life that you love. She decided to do a Q & A series on her blog where she interviews entrepreneurs and girl bosses. Today I get to share mine and I’m super excited for you all to read it!
Question 1: Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Renelle Briggs, I am 19 and am currently a student at McMaster University, where I am studying social psychology and french. I am also a competitive runner, and run for both the varsity cross country and track teams there. I am also an entrepreneur, marketer and business owner and am obsessed with all things social media.
Question 2: What does a productive day look like to you?
A productive day for me would be me getting up at 6AM, doing my morning personal development routine, going for a run and doing my workout, and then sitting down to work for the day. Since I work from home and am essentially my own boss, it can be hard to get going sometimes. But I find that when I start my mornings like this, I tend to be super productive.
Question 3: What do you feel motivates you the most?
I think going after my big goals and my craving for success is what makes me feel most motivated! I love working towards my goals and dreams.
Question 4: When do you feel the most motivated and productive?
Morning for sure! I find that once the afternoon hits, I start to feel a bit tired and less productive, and evenings are when I wind down. One of the reasons I love getting up early is because it gives me more time in the mornings. I always make sure to do the important things in the morning because that is when I feel most productive.
Question 5: What do you do to motivate yourself when you are feeling unmotivated?
When I feel unmotivated, there are three things that can help me out of my funk: exercising, listening to a personal development podcast (my current fav is Often Ambitious) or listening to throwback songs. When I feel unmotivated, I need to do something that will get my energy up and my spirits raised, and all three of those things help to get me back into a good headspace.
Question 6: What would you say to someone who is trying to become more productive?
If someone asked me how to become more productive, I would tell them that the best thing to do is make a schedule of what needs to be done. Get in the habit of prioritizing what’s most important, and doing that first!
Question 7: What advice would you give to your younger self?
The biggest piece of advice that I would give to my younger self is to go after what makes you happy and don’t let anybody bring you down for that. I’ve been doing a lot of mindset training lately, and one of the things that I have learned is that we are in control of our own feelings and actions. If someone makes you feel bad about something that you are doing, you are the one who is letting that happen. It is up to you to decide how you are going to let external things, for example other people, affect how you act and what you do in your life. I think that learning that you are the only one that is in control of you will make such a big difference in your life, and it will set you free – free to do what you truly desire, and free to be who you want to be.
Question 8: What is something you have accomplished that you are most proud of?
I think the thing that I am proud of myself for accomplishing is the business that I have built. When I first started, a lot of my friends and people I knew judged me for it, and would make fun of me. But despite that, I stuck with it, and I have built a successful online business and brand, and I am so proud of the life that I am building for myself. I think I am also proud of how much I have grown and the person that I have become/ am becoming in the process.
Question 9: What is something you love to do that makes you lose track of time?
I absolutely loveee going on Pinterest!! It can be good and bad – I always get so inspired and I love creating my dream vision boards on there. But, sometimes I get stuck in the scroll and I can spend hours on there. I also LOVE to watch Selling Sunset – it’s a real estate show based in LA where they sell million dollar homes. Watching that show always gets me so pumped up and motivated to keep working hard so that I can live that lifestyle one day.
Question 10: What is your best / favorite habit?
My favourite habit is my organization! I absolutely love to plan things out and make sure that everything is organized.
Question 11: What do you to relax when you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed?
When I’m feeling stressed, going for a walk and listening to a podcast helps to calm me down!
Question 12: What advice would you give to someone who is trying to become a better version of themselves?
I would say to work on creating and implementing new habits into your life. If you want to change the person that you are, you have to start by changing your actions, which are made up of your daily habits. Focus on changing one at a time, stick with it consistently, and then work on the next habit.
Question 13: How do you bounce back from failure?
The only way to fail is to quit, so in that case, I don’t need to bounce back from it because I never quit. There are most definitely some very low points, but I never ever quit something that I truly believe in. I’m not quite sure what it is, but ever since I was little, I would always have this feeling of guilt if I were to quit something – so I would just stick with it, and I would end up successful. I think that if you think of failure as a necessary part of success, and as an important part of growth, then you won’t ever have to be scared of it.
Question 14: What do you feel passionate about?
I am passionate about entrepreneurship, personal development, and social media!
Question 15: Are you a dreamer or a realist?
A dreamer for sure!! Ever since I was younger, I would always set these big big goals to chase after – and that will never go away.
Question 16: How do you measure success in life?
I think the best measure of success is by how happy and fulfilled you are. Do you love what you do? Are you proud of what you have accomplished? Do you tend to be happy with your lifestyle? Are you doing something that fulfills you? I think that once you can answer all these questions with a “yes”, then you can consider yourself successful.
Question 17: Who inspires you the most?
My mom is my biggest inspiration. Watching all that she has accomplished is a big part of that, but I think what’s even bigger is the amount of belief that she always poured in me. She always sees something in me even when I don’t see it in myself, and I would not have been able to have accomplished all that I have without her.
Question 18: What is your number one goal in life?
My number one goal in life is to be a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker. I want to live a life filled with love, happiness, gratitude and fulfilment.
Question 19: What is your favorite self-improvement book?
The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone and How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
Question 20: What is your favorite motivational quote?
“A girl who is going to do big things cannot let small things get to her.”
